This cover series is designed for four short stories from Pai Hsien-yung's Taipei People: "The Eternal Snow Beauty," "A Touch of Green," "Wandering in the Garden, Waking from a Dream," and "The Last Night of Taipan Chin." Through these four concise yet powerful narratives, Pai portrays women from different social strata in early 20th-century China. By focusing on these individual lives, the series captures a microcosm of the era and the inevitable tragedy of female fate within a shifting society.
